Mudabbir HaneefUNDP's Strengthening Rule of Law in Malakand Project (SRLM) 2011-2015, was designed to address gaps in the justice sector. Under this project, APEX was hired to conduct a KAP study in Swat, Chitral, Buner, and Lower Dir districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The main objective of the KAP study was to collect systematic information on the level of awareness of the population about its legal rights, statutory laws, and formal and informal institutions of justice - police courts, traditional Jirga, Musalihati Jirga, etc. It was also to collect systematic information on and analyze the attitude and practices of the population towards institutions of justice delivery.
APEX provided the services included study framework development, data collection tools, training of enumerators, data collection from primary and secondary sources, analysis, triangulation, and report writing. APEX deployed 08 field teams for primary data collection and a separate team for qualitative data collection in Swat, Chitral, Buner, and Lower Dir districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Data was collected from 1,840 common households, 276 justice providers households, 276 justice providers, 08 FGDs with communities, 18 KIIs (Court, Prosecution, Police/administration, Bar Association, and Paralegal) as well as 92 community surveys.
